One of the most promising young baritones in the operatic world of today,
Carlos Archuleta is an exciting performer full of vitality and magnetic
presence. He is at home is diverse styles of singing including the works of
Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Puccini and those of contemporary
composers such as Adams and Adamo.
Mr. Archuleta has been a recent guest of notable companies including the
Washington National Opera (Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore, Count di Luna in Il
Trovatore and Nogales in Luisa Fernanda), Dallas (Uncle Salvaor in De
Falla's La Vida Breve), Orlando Opera (Silvio in I Pagliacci and Baritone
Soloist in Carmina Burana) Minnesota Opera (Papageno in Die Zauberflöte
and the title role in Nixon in China), Santa Fe Opera (The Accuser in the
world premiere of Bright Sheng’s Madame Mao, Opera Roanoke in the title
role in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. In addition, he has appeared with the Orlando
Opera as Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore, Utah Opera as Papageno, Dayton
Opera as Escamillo, Utah Opera, Opera Aperta, Natchez Opera Festival, and
Opera Southwest.
Recent appearances include notable debuts with the New York City Opera as
Escamillo, the New Orleans Opera in the title role of Le Nozze di Figaro, and
the Cincinnati Opera as Alvaro in Florencia en el Amazonas, returns to the
Minnesota Opera as Cyrus in Croesus. with, Boston Lyric Opera as
Sharpless, Tulsa Opera as Escamillo, the Minnesota Opera as the Count in
Le Nozze di Figaro and Lake George Opera as Marcello, This summer, he will
sing Belcore for the Sugar Creek Festival of Song. In 2009, he will make a
notable debut in London at the Royal Albert Hall as Escamillo and return to
Utah Opera as Malatesta..
On the concert stage, Mr. Archuleta has performed, Bach’s Cantata BWV 82
Ich habe Genug, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Handel's Messiah, and the Bach
Magnificat, as well as numerous performances of the Brahms Requiem with
such organizations as the American Festival of Microtonal Music,
Masterworks Chorale, Paul Madore Chorale, Salem Philharmonic, Pro Musica
Chorus, and Boston Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra. He has also appeared
as Baritone Soloist in Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 (Sinfonia Espansiva) with
the Minnesota Orchestra and appeared with the Nashua, New Hampshire
Symphony, Boston Vocal Artists, Choral Arts Society of Massachusetts,
Minnesota Symphony, Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Highlands Orchestra of New
Mexico and performed Mahler's Die Kindertotenlieder in New Mexico. He has
also been a guest artist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Affiliated
Artist Recital Series, performing the role of Coyote in the new operatic work of
Charles Shadle Coyote's Dinner. Also he was pleased to premiere a song
cycle by the same composer especially written for him using text by the New
Mexican poet Jim Sagel. Last season, he appeared as Baritone soloist in
Carmina Burana with the Asheville Symphony and with the North Arkansas
Symphony.
